Sick day.

Thursday, January 23, 2014

Unfortunately, I've been so sick the past few days which is why I have slacked on posts. Today I'm definitely feeling way better than I have been. Since I've been too lazy to get out of bed, I took some time to catch up on my many magazines, (of course, swooning over Drew Barrymore in the new Marie Claire). I also recently started reading The Life and Legacy: Alexander McQueen by Judith Watt. Hands down, he is my favorite designer and I feel that there will never be another designer of that caliber. I have watched numerous documentaries on him, his life, his shows, but this book really goes into every little aspect of his life. The pictures are just wonderful. Also, I took some time to give myself a mani/pedi. Pantone proclaimed "Radiant Orchid" the color of the year for 2014 so I went with a lighter orchid color made by Essie called "Go Ginza." I also took some time last night to sit and watch Netflix on my iPad. One of the movies I watched was Frances Ha (2012) which focuses on the love relationship between two girl friends and the way their life and relationship changes as they grow older and slowly apart. I really enjoyed the movie and would definitely recommend it.

Seven years.

Monday, January 20, 2014

As some of you may or may not know, yesterday was my anniversary with my boyfriend, Nick. We've been together for seven years and he continues to encourage me to be a better version of myself. He is extremely talented and extremely compassionate and supportive and I am by far the luckiest girl around to be able to wake up to him every morning. Nick is a fine art photographer and these photos were taken by a friend of his from school, Lindsey Camilli. All photos were taken by her, be sure to check out her website!

Beetlejuice, beetlejuice, beetlejuice.

Today's outfit was a mix of textures and prints. So casual, but also something that's chic enough to wear to work or on a date night. The lace of the skirt adds a really feminine touch which is something that is great to pair with when wearing menswear like this olive colored blazer. Burgundy and olive are great colors for this winter season and are even better when paired together. Since the blazer is rather big in size (even though it's a small), it is better to pair it with a shirt that is more form fitting, like this striped top here.

I hate the term "Throwback Thursday."

Thursday, January 16, 2014

I really do hate the whole "throwback Thursday" fad that's going on lately.. But I guess it's about time to jump on the bandwagon, because I have plenty of "throwback" outfit pictures that I believe are worth sharing. For quite some time last year, I was absolutely drawn to sheer bohemian kimono-type blouses. This was definitely one of them. I still have them too, every single one. I think they're extremely versatile and just really FUN. With this particular outfit, I kept it very simple with just a black cotton body-con dress underneath and black pumps. But for those who would rather keep it casual, these kimonos can be worn with jeans, whether they're skinny jeans or boyfriend fit. If the kimono is floral or patterned, keep it simple with a basic tee or tank.

Monochrome & olive.

Wednesday, January 15, 2014

Yesterday was a long work day, so I leaned towards a more comfortable outfit, rather than something else. As you can probably tell by now, comfort is something I like to consider most when I'm going to be getting dressed for the day. With the rainy day blues, I decided that a monochrome outfit of all black seemed to fit the gloomy day. To add a little something, I wore my vintage olive bowler hat which I found for $10 at the Brimfield Antique Show. Thrift stores and flea markets are my absolute favorite because there are so many hidden gems! This hat was definitely one of them. And to think I almost left without it! After walking away from it, I quickly ran back before someone else picked it up.

Camo & Leather.

Monday, January 13, 2014

Jeans: American Eagle
Loafers: Bongo
Blouse: Francesca's
Suede Jacket: Francesca's
Leather Jacket: Harper

I fell in love with these camo jeans the moment I saw them, and to top it off, they were only $25! Gotta love a good bargain. They're super dark toned so they almost look black from far away, which gives off a dressier look than your typical camo. With the chilly weather here in Boston, I played with layering different fabrics (chiffon, suede, and leather) to stay warm and chic. Pairing burgundy with neutral tones is a huge trend this season as well, so I topped off the outfit with some burgundy loafers to keep the outfit rather laid back.

Snowy day inspiration.

Friday, January 3, 2014

Winters in New England often calls for a snow day. Which as of lately, this is something I really needed. For Christmas, I received Alexa Chung's debut book "It." I am a huge fan of Alexa Chung (major girl crush.) I really just think she seems extremely witty and down-to-earth. I would definitely recommend reading this book if you're a fan as well. It's not something that will take major time out of your day, but is a rather easy read. Chung covered so many topics, including growing up in the 90's (including being a major Spice Girls fan), movie and music inspiration for beauty and fashion, heartbreak, and her top recommended fashion essentials. And basically every other topic in between.
