Super Hero

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

You know those days where you don't want to get out of bed?.. That was today. I reached for my hair elastic and my most comfortable cardigan. This one particular cardigan is more like a cape, or even a blanket for when you feel like wrapping yourself up. Couldn't be more perfect for a day like today. In a lame attempt to spice up my outfit, I threw on a chunky necklace that I knew would be the focus of my attire. Maybe tomorrow I won't be such a lazy lady!

New VC Suede Booties

Tuesday, October 28, 2014

I have been on the prowl for a new pair of cognac suede ankle boots. I'm pretty particular though.. Needs: wooden heel, not too orange/not too brown, can't have any buckles or cut-outs, needs a heel between 2"-3.5" but not a bit higher. Blah blah blah. Well, I found these Vince Camuto ankle boots at TJ Maxx for $40 and I was obsessed. I had to go back the very next day and now they're all mine.

Music to my ears.

Sunday, October 19, 2014

Since moving in together, Nick and I have quickly seen our record collection expand. Not only did we each have a good amount of vinyl on our own, we now have one big collection and have just continued to buy more and more. I mean, how can you not?! I go through phases where I tend to listen to a few albums non-stop and then switch to another few albums the next weeks or so. (Some old, some new..) Here's what you'd most likely catch me dancing to if you stopped by my apartment.

1. Sylvan Esso: "Sylvan Esso"
This is one of the most recent albums I have listened to and haven't stopped from that moment. Such a totally different sound. An electro/indie duo that you really just want to dance to. The only way to really understand what this album is, is to give it a listen. Which I highly recommend.

2. Alt-J: "This Is All Yours"
Although this album is a little slower than their previous album, its still amazing nonetheless. They have such a distinct sound that they continued to carry into this second album so even though it's a little slower, you still have the familiar mystical music you hope to have from the first album. I get to see them in a few weeks coming this November and I couldn't be more excited!

3. Bon Iver: "For Emma, Forever Ago"
This is my favorite album, ever. Nick and I went and saw them playing in NYC at Radio City Music Hall last year for my birthday and my love for them became even more profound. I know that no matter what I'm doing, I can put this album on and enjoy it from start to finish.

4.  Lykke Li: "Wounded Rhymes"
Such distinct vocals. I always find it really amazing how she uses many different types of instruments, like tambourines and various drums, and how she incorporates her unique voice in with those instruments and bought this album for that reason. I Know Places is probably the slowest of her songs (and also my favorite), but even with the slow rhythm you can hear the instrumentals loud & clear.

5. Warpaint: "Warpaint"
Nothing like an all girl band. Growing up my sister, cousin, and myself wanted to start our own band.. We just didn't have any musical knowledge/talent, so it's probably a good thing that I have bands like this to listen to instead. They're vocals are raw and beautiful, and not feminine as you might expect. Like Lykke Li (but in a totally different way) they are huge on instrumentals. Our roommate Bobby saw them recently and even that they are even more amazing to see live. Which I find is so incredibly important.

6. David Bowie: "Heroes"
How can you not love Bowie?! I had been looking high and low for this one album. (I refused to buy it online because it's not as exciting as actually finding it in a pile of records.) I stumbled upon it in Newbury Comics "New Used Arrivals" section and was beyond happy that someone chose not to keep it for themselves. Heroes is my favorite song of Bowie's but after they re-recorded the song to be re-released, they chopping out about half of the song. I'm so happy to actually get to listen to the entire song now that I have this.

Fine Gauge

Bandana prints aren't just for cowboys anymore. This burgundy bandana-print Free People scarf is ultra soft and super big. The shape is just amazing and it allows the scarf to drape beautifully no matter how you style it. Even my cat Jasper loves it (he felt the need to make a short cameo today.) I got it at the boutique I work at, Flock Boston, where you can find this and also a TON of other scarves that are beyond amazing. As you can probably tell by now, I'm the kinda girl who's first focus is comfort. Even if it means wearing jeans everyday. I just like to pretend it's okay since they're a different pair of jeans everyday (and I know you know EXACTLY what I'm saying). I stepped away from my usual black denim and threw on my trusty classic dark wash, which is really perfect to pair with a white blouse. With the addition of the scarf, I know I can turn to this outfit on days when I'm having a fashion brain fart.

New girl in town.

Friday, October 10, 2014

There's always gonna be days where you just don't feel like getting ready. But that doesn't mean you really have to reach for the sweats right away, and definitely not the leggings or yoga pants. PLEASE refrain from those damn yoga pants. Ugh. Here's my simple solution for all you lazy bones. Black on black on black. Even when you don't feel like you're ready to get ready. Black is simple, stylish, and you look a bit more polished.
If you're looking for a complete head to toe simple outfit, grab a Monroe & Harlow turban. There's always days where you know you need to wash your hair, but let's be real. It's too long of a process to deal with when you have places to be. These turbans are not only the cutest things ever, but you instantly add a little something to your outfit all while helping hide your bed head. (Although I always say embrace messy hair) I have quite a few of their turbans but the one I chose today is their "New Girl in Town" turban, which is quite fitting since I'm kinda the new girl in this crazy blogging world.

Not your Grandpa's fedora

Thursday, October 9, 2014

I'm a girl who loves a great deal. So let me just tell you... I got this amazing hat for ONLY $12. Amazing. It's a great fit. Not too over-sized so it doesn't look like grandpa's old hat (not that there's anything wrong with that). And probably the most perfect shade of green you could ever make a hat in. When I woke up the other day, fall weather was in full force and was SO chilly. So I had to opt for layers on layers and I was beyond excited for that.

Faux Real.

Wednesday, October 8, 2014

Sweater weather is supposedly better weather. But I'm all about leather & faux fur weather. Even if Nick reminds me that I look like a "wookie" when throw them on. My favorite types of looks are the ones where you have a super edgy, dark piece that you pair with a completely contradicting soft and dainty piece. Like today's outfit: faux fur + pale pink.

Fashion Week S/S '15

Sunday, October 5, 2014

It's kind of obvious that as a fashion fanatic, I love to check out all the runway shows during Fashion Week. You know the excitement you used to feel trying to fall asleep the night before Christmas? Yah, that's me with Fashion Week. I enjoy the endless photos pouring all over the internet, and watching the videos as soon as their uploaded. And when it's all over, I count down the days until Fashion Week and I meet again. Of all the shows I've seen so far from New York to Paris, I've definitely had some favorites: Chanel, Proenza Schouler, and Rodarte (all entirely different from one another). And to top it off, The Coveteur has provided stunning picture after stunning picture that show a different side to the shows. Here are some of my absolute faves from both on & off the runway.

1st Bruins Game

Saturday, October 4, 2014

Tuesday night, my two sisters & myself took my dad out for a little birthday celebration at a Boston Bruins game. I've actually never been to a hockey game and neither had my little sister so it was definitely something we've been looking forward to. I'm also not much of a sports fan which is why it took so long to finally go, but I gotta say, you can't help but just have a good time even if you don't really understand what's going on. And you can't really pass up beer & pretzels. You just can't. Spice up a sports tee with leather and loads of bracelets and you'll still look cute without looking like the Super Fan.
