basics, not basic.

Sunday, December 4, 2016

Hiya pals. Just here to show you a quick update on your basic fall pieces. First stop, denim - swap out skinnies for a cropped boot leg. Add texture to your under pinnings like I did with this little lace number. Substantial ankle boots and a classic wool fedora tie the look together but don't make you look plain. Plus you're still warm so kudos! When we went to run errands after this mini session and I topped it all off with a leopard faux fur to keep things exciting. XO

birthday jacket.

Saturday, November 19, 2016

For anyone who follows my instagram feed, you're already seen this coat. Isn't it amazing? One of those things that you b-line for when you walk into a store and that's literally the only thing you need becaue at that point, it doesn't get much better. That's how it worked for me. I love Free People. But in particular, I love their boots and coats. They're pieces I'm willing to splurge on and they always hold up so well with wear. This coat is 100% suede (sorry anti-leather friends) with black embroidery all over the front and back yokes. The bell sleeve and ruffle front pull in that gorgeous Victorian look. They say on your birthday it's your day to shine, and I'll tell you I certainly felt like I did. XO

McDonald Mixed Media

Friday, November 11, 2016

Hey everyone! Have you seen my bag? You must have - the print is incredible, right? Local artist Shannon McDonald has a new trick up her sleeve - turning her prismatic prints into custom clutches. She hand paints her design and then has a fabric created with that exact design. Then these clutches are hand crafted using that very fabric. For someone like me, these bags are great. I don't like to particular wear my color within my outfits but pulling my look together with a statement clutch, now that's totally my thing. And if you do like wearing color, even better. Here you go, rich color for days! A clutch is the perfect bag in my opinion. Don't want to lug around a tote? A clutch fits the perfect amount of necessities - keys, phone, cash, cards. Feeling like maybe that's not going to hold enough for you? Use this clutch as a fun piece to toss inside your larger bag to help you organize. Shannon is starting an Indiegogo page (that you can find here) to help raise the funds to cover the costs of the first batch of bags that have been created. No donation is too small. With each donation you'll receive something special from Shannon herself. Now get yourself a bag before they're gone!!! XO

Etsy

Thursday, November 10, 2016

So when I'm not working away at Nordstrom, I like to make little mini leather goods. It's been a long time coming but I uploaded a few of my pieces to my Etsy. Since I don't have an actual site for selling, here it is for everyone who is curious. Any custom orders, please contact me at britnieharlow1@gmail.com!

oktoberfest.

Thursday, October 13, 2016

I'm not German, but I'm about 100% sure that I love beer more than most Germans do. So obviously an Oktoberfest is right up my alley. Last Friday Kasey and I headed over to Union Point's Oktoberfest for some German folk music, pretzels, beer (of course), and just a good time. There were literally people of all ages just getting together for the same thing - a good time with friends. Kasey weirdly knew all the songs the band played and after eating from a tree of bacon (no joke) they whipped out some doughnut holes filled with apple cider filling. Seriously was in heaven. Union Point always has great events like this that you should be sure to check out. I even had a fashion tent at their annual Fall Festival the next day which was a total blast. Food trunks, pumpkin painting for kids, farmer's market, fashion trucks/tents, live music. Not a single dull moment.

champion cobalt

Here's a quick look into my living room from this weekend. All of our walls were bright white so I felt like it was time to add a pop of color. I chose Champion Cobalt by Benjamin Moore. We have a lot of things and a lot of art so I felt like our salon wall was in need of something fun so here it is! XO

Ready for Fall with Banana Republic

Sunday, September 25, 2016

My favorite season is finally here. I mean, I could do without the pumpkin spice coffee, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin everything but count me in for all things spooky, apple picking, my birthday, and alllllll things fall fashion related. Banana Republic stepped up to plate to help me prep for my fall wardrobe, sending me some perfect essentials. The weathers been on the brink of hot and chilly so I took this boucle overcoat and paired it back to some denim cut-offs. This jacket is AMAZING. Color, texture, fit. It's gorgeous. It is for sure the only coat I'll be needing this season. It's such a substantial piece that I knew all I needed was a cozy favorite tee to go with my ensemble. I chose an unexpected pairing of chartreuse and emerald to play with the otherwise muted palette I chose to wear. This tee is one of those ones you want to wear 7 days a week but don't want to run into anyone who might actually notice, ya know? Stay tuned for additional ways to wear these pieces - I know there will be lots of those moments to come. And thank you Banana Republic for sponsoring this post! XO.

Sunflower

Sunday, September 18, 2016

For the first time in awhile, I decided to not make any solid weekend plans. I've been super tired lately and to top it off was super sick this week, so the last thing I wanted to do was go about someone else's schedule. Kasey and I sent our Saturday wandering around Colby Farm in Newbury, MA. The North Shore is super gorgeous and nothing like the South Shore. Farmland surrounds you, where I'm use to concrete building and oceans. Colby Farm was quaint, fairly small but beautiful sunflowers everywhere AND they had apple cider donuts. (!!!!!) Found an apple orchard up the street and picked up a peck. My night followed with runs around the dog park with Athena and Nick and brunch with everyone on Sunday. We take brunch very seriously in our apartment, or at least I do. XO
